 The combination of Navy and burgundy in this star is so popular in the Broken Star pattern.  We have several of this pattern in this color combination, each distinctly different from the others.  This particular Amish Broken Star is unique for two reasons, in that it stands entirely on it's own, without the addition of smaller 8 point stars which might be considered typical for this pattern;  and the star itself drops down to be incorporated into the border.  The Amish tell me that when a pattern is pieced specifically to become part of the borders, this design is referred to as Broken Star Surprise.  This particular star is huge and would be best displayed on a king size bed.  It has a straight-edge and the binding is white so as not to draw attention away from the fact that the star extends into the borders.
