Accurately marking a whole cloth quilt is not for the faint-hearted. There are no colors and patterns to conceal errors as with a pieced project. The quilting must stand on it's own merit on a whole cloth quilt. An improperly marked whole cloth will not achieve a balanced design, and all of the minor errors will be painfully obvious. For this reason, in addition to the tops featured below, we also offer whole cloth tops that are already marked and ready for quilting. Our whole cloth tops are marked with a proper quilting pencil, not the water-soluble markings of commercially prepared tops which are humidity sensitive, and all the markings on the top can disappear overnight, a devastating scenario but unfortunately, not uncommon.Pre-marked or Pre-stenciled designs on a solid piece of fabric offer the devoted quilter the perfect opportunity to create a hand quilting masterpiece that is absolutely elegant in its simplicity. Actually, pre-marked quilt tops are a great canvas for the beginning quilter as well--no paths or seam junctures to obscure your concentration on 'perfecting your quilting skills'; you are free to focus on the art itself without any clutter or distractions. Our pre-marked whole quilt tops are not the typical factory-stamped designs on inferior, low thread-count muslin. They are marked with proper quilt pencils, not the water soluable markings of commercially produced tops which are humidity and heat sensitive, something which the heat will permanently set the marks. While Barbara marks it strict accordance with the 'two-inch rule,' her marking is not overdone or excessive. You will not expend over a thousand yards of thread, or spend years finishing your quilt. And if you want to add narrower cross-hatching for more quilting and definition, it's as simple as taking a quilt marking pencil and a yardstick; all the hard work of keeping the design symmetrical has been done for you by an expert.
